The Bank of Thailand is preparing to introduce new 50-baht and 100-baht polymer banknotes, which are more durable than paper notes and resistant to moisture and dirt, resulting in a longer lifespan. Similar to the currently circulating 20-baht polymer banknotes—whose lifespan is about four times longer—the new notes will help reduce the need to produce at least 350 million replacement banknotes per year, lowering costs and minimizing environmental impact.
The new polymer banknotes retain a similar appearance to the existing ones but include enhanced anti-counterfeiting features, such as transparent windows, embossed denomination markings, color-shifting ink, and Braille-like symbols for individuals with visual impairments. The new notes will enter circulation on 21 November 2025, available for withdrawal at all banks, with the 100-baht note also usable through ATM/CDM machines. Existing paper banknotes of these denominations will continue to be accepted as usual.
